Chatham Kent Crime Stoppers is pleased to announce that Mrs. Myers art class at CKSS have completed their mural project. The art work was outstanding The class created 9 large murals and 2 smaller ones that will be displayed throughout the school. The students, Mrs Myers and Penelope Duschene did an excellent job expressing the Crime Stoppers theme of a strong community.

Through the generous donation of $25, 000.00 by the Trillium Foundation the Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers entered into a Collaborative Agreement for the Secondary School Mural Project with the Lambton Kent District School Board, the St. Clair Catholic School Board, and Conseil Scolaire De District Des Ecoles Catholiques Du Sud-Ouest.

The purpose of this collaborative is to improve community awareness of the Crime Stoppers program and its mandate to reduce crime in the Municipality of Chatham-Kent.

This specific programme is intended to educate the youth of our community in the need for sound judgements and the understanding of their position within our community and its future development. The intent is to create better citizens for the future.

The first phase of this initiative is to provide each secondary school the opportunity for the student population to design and create a mural that reflects their school community, its diversity and its concerns relating to crime. The intent is for the Principal, the student council, a teacher advisor, Crime Stoppers and the students to develop a theme for their mural to address issues that are relevant and meaningfull to them. We would encourage them to individualize the mural to reflect their school
community.

The crime stoppers logo as well as the 1-800- 222-TIPS phone number and the Trillium Foundation Logo must be part of each display.

As part of the Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers commitment to the program, local mural artist Penelope Duchesne will act as an advisor throughout the entire project and will work side by side with the students to design and create the mural in their school.

The second phase of our initiative involves providing each secondary school student in Chatham-Kent, with a carabiner hook and removeable key ring. "CRIME STOPPERS 1-800-222-TIPS and the Trillium Foundation Logo has been printed on them. In all 7,500 carabiners will be distributed througout Chatham-Kent.
